Natural Church Development aims at releasing the growth dynamics which God has placed in a congregation to build the church.
The process is simple: Leaders of a congregation take the NCD Survey about their church life. Based on their input, the church receives a profile of the congregation which measures their strengths and weaknesses along eight different quality characteristics of church growth.
- Empowering leadership
- Gift-oriented ministry
- Passionate spirituality
- Functional structures
- Inspiring worship service
- Holistic small groups
- Need-oriented evangelism
- Loving relationships

Based on their profile, the congregation identifies their minimum factor, their weakest characteristic, and, with an assigned coach, begins to work to improve the area.
Albany Presbytery have individuals who are well acquainted with NCD who can coach you through the process.

Congregations that have taken the NCD survey: Argyle, Corinth, Christ Church of the Hills, Rensselaer, Shusan, First Glens Falls, Scotia, First Glens Falls, and Schoharie.
Churches that are planning on it soon: Mayfield, Johnstown, Union Schenectady.
Churches who have engaged the process report that as they intentionally work at improving their minimum factor, almost all other areas of church life improve!
