Shannan Vance-Ocampo serves Albany Presbytery as the Transitional Presbyter and in that role is called to assist the Presbytery in discerning God’s preferred future in a changing time. Previous to this call Shannan served as the Pastor/Head of Staff at Watchung Avenue Presbyterian Church in North Plainfield, NJ and as the Associate Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Rumson, NJ. Her field education work was at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Homewood, IL, Ravenswood Presbyterian Church in Chicago, IL and chaplaincy at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Shannan serves the Synod of the Northeast as part of the Working Group on Race and in the national church is Co-Moderator of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship and serves as an Elected Member of the the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board.
She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies (honors) from The College of Wooster, a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and coursework towards a Masters in Public Policy at Monmouth College. She also spent an undergraduate semester at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Shannan is a Certified Christian Educator in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is a Fellow with GreenFaith and is currently completing certifications in Executive Leadership from McCormick Theological Seminary and Religious Funds Development from the Lake Institute. For the last ten years she has co-supervised a program of human rights accompaniment in Colombia, South America through Presbyterian World Mission, the Iglesia Presbiteriana de Colombia and the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship.
Her passions are for organizational change, prophetic leadership and congregational transformation. She lives in Albany, NY with her husband Juan Gabriel Ocampo Valle of Bogotá, Colombia and their daughter.
