Resolution on a Way Forward in Angry and Anxious Times

This resolution was brought to the Presbytery at its February 4, 2017 Stated Meeting by the Peacemaking Task Force.  It came out of a deep concern around increased racial and anti-immigrant violence in the Presbytery that has been occurring for the last few months.  It was unanimously approved and added to the minutes of that meeting.   This is a time of deep divisions in our nation, within … [Read more...]

Advent Four: Salvation and Condemnation (Isaiah 7: 10-17)

Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, saying, Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test. Then Isaiah said: “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary mortals, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall … [Read more...]

Advent Two: New Growth (Isaiah 11: 1-10)

A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. With the same sense of call that led me to Albany … [Read more...]

#PYT2016 Day 5 Reflections

Biblical Theme for the Day:  The Great GO-Mission – Matthew 28: 16-20 Meanwhile, the eleven disciples were on their way to Galilee, headed for the mountain Jesus had set for their reunion. The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally. Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and … [Read more...]

#PYT2016 Day 4 Reflections

Biblical Theme for the Day:  Let my People GO – Exodus 3-7 This is a long biblical passage to post in its entirety, so here is a link to read it! From Robert Quaye:  "Today, it was a special day because our scheduled programs were sort of flipped. We started out having rec time first, which is normally what we do last each night. Delegation and small groups were later today. Today was the last … [Read more...]

#PYT2016 Day 3 Reflections

Biblical Theme for the Day:  Teach me the way I should GO – Psalm 32 Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be—     you get a fresh start,     your slate’s wiped clean. Count yourself lucky—     God holds nothing against you     and you’re holding nothing back from him. When I kept it all inside,     my bones turned to powder,     my words became daylong groans. The pressure never … [Read more...]
