Hi prayer warriors. Bay Road’s mission team for 2016 consists of three adults (Janice, Deb, and Pat) and two teenagers (Charlotte, and Kristen). Also joining us will be JoEllen Parsons – who with her husband Tom, began the LaBastille School in 2005.
Our itinerary will include not only mission work with children at schools and orphanages, but also visits to a hospital and a doctor’s clinic. One exciting aspect is visiting a new primary school, began by Kendy, who was part of the Haitian team of young men that guided us in April 2015. He began this school in the summer of 2015 to help children in his village of Leon who were not able to go to school. This school has a huge need for funding, as any new project does. We at Bay Road support this school, as do some other members in our local communities.
Our proposed itinerary:
Saturday 02/13 – Flight to Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti
Sunday 02/14 – We will travel (about 6 hours) to Jeremie, where we will then travel by car to Leon to stay until Wednesday.
Monday 02/15 – We will visit the new school in Leon, meeting with the leaders of the school and the families of the children. I might add, even though many families have multiple children, only one is chosen to attend the school in Leon! Later we will attend a new church and meet with the church leaders.
Tuesday 02/16 – Today is a day to visit the market, see the land, meet with the doctor, the seamstress who sews the school uniforms, the “Supplies” lady and visit more of the school children families in their homes.
Wednesday 02/17 – Returning to Jeremie, we will visit an orphanage and a doctor we had contact with last year. Then we will “kick back” and go to the beach right on the Caribbean Sea.
Thursday 02/18 – We will visit the school that Tom & JoEllen Parsons began in 2005 – LaBastille, high up in the mountainous area.
Friday 02/19 – Two of our members will be returning to the US today and the other three may visit other Haitian people we had contact with in April 2015.
Saturday 02/20 – Today will also be a time which is not yet determined, most likely with some fun times also – possibly beach time again, and definitely “hanging with the guys” to talk about Haitian life, Haitian music, family, and certainly a dance contest (Haitian vs. American). To bed early as we are up at 3AM to head back to Port-au-Prince for our flight home.
