SUMMARY:Presbyterian Women Horizons Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Join Presbyterian Women and learn about Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth. This Bible study explores the letter’s setting\, divisions within the congregation\, and ultimately\, the gifts given to all through the work of Christ. Readers will be fascinated by this journey to Corinth and will explore how Paul’s timeless message of loving unity calls Christ’s followers today. \nAlthough First Corinthians contains familiar theology and passages we easily recognize—like the words of institution for the Lord’s Supper and the meditation on love—readers often don’t realize that Paul wrote this letter to a church in conflict. Paul founded the congregation in Corinth around the year 50 and later moved to Ephesus\, a few hundred miles away. From there Paul wrote a letter to the Corinthians trying to help settle their disputes. He saw that the church was lacking in love\, and their conflicts were betraying God’s saving act in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. \nThur\, June 18 – June 20th \nThe full program begins at 4pm on THURSDAY and ends after lunch on SATURDAY. Registration and check-in will start on Thursday at 3:00 PM. The program fee of $75 is included in the room cost and covers the leader\, her room and board\, and a copy of the study. \n\nAbout the Authors \nThe Rev. Dr. Rhonda Mawhood Lee is an Episcopal priest\, writer\, and spiritual director. Originally from Montréal\, Québec\, Canada\, she was raised with two native languages\, French and English\, and continues to enjoy studying languages and getting to know people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. She earned an MDiv from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a PhD in history from Duke University. \nDr. Sarah Leer is a native Arkansan and lifelong Presbyterian. She has a consulting business\, serves as the transitional youth and young adult developer for the Presbytery of Arkansas\, and is the project manager for Growing in Grace\, a Wesleyan institute focused on anti-ableist worship practices. Sarah is a graduate of Wake Forest University\, Columbia Theological Seminary\, and the Clinton School of Public Service. \nOur leader will be the Rev. Amy Sandlin. Born and raised in NJ\, Amy joined the United States Air Force\, and is a proud veteran of the Desert Storm/Desert Shield campaign of the Gulf War. \nAmy graduated from Warren County Community College in June 1995 and 5 days later graduated from the Somerset County Police Academy. Amy worked in Greenwich Township as a patrol officer for 4 years then transferred to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office where she was a Sex Crimes Detective for most of her career. Amy retired from police work in 2008. \nAmy graduated from Centenary College with a BA in Sociology in 2001 and again in 2009 with a Master’s Degree in Psychology/Counseling. Amy graduated from Drew Theological School with a Master’s in Divinity in 2015. She was ordained in June 2016 and has served Delaware Presbyterian Church and First Oxford Church since September 2014\, first as a student pastor then as the Pastor. She currently serves Trinity United Church in Warren NJ as Covenant Supply Pastor. She and her husband have 21-year-old twins\, and all are active in the local community. \nLEARN MORE & REGISTER

DESCRIPTION:Each year clergy are required to take the New York State Sexual Harassment Prevention Training. Practical Resource Center (PRC)\, of which Albany Presbytery is a member\, offers this online training several times and you may take this training any time during the year. \nOnce one has finished the training\, they issue a certificate saying it has been completed successfully. That certificate should be sent to Rev. Margarita spoke at the Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery of Albany Spring Gathering on Apr 30. The freewill offering went to the New Faith for Women and Children Program \nTea and Tour Event at the Capital City Rescue Mission – 259 South Pearl Street\, Albany \nThursday\, May 21 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm \nThis tour will include the whole mission\, day shelter\, night shelter\, Transitional Living Program and will end at the New Faith for Women and Children Program facility. While there\, you will see the classroom\, kids’ room\, craft room and fitness center. Following the tour\, there will be a Fellowship Time with refreshments in its terrace. Margery Rossi (she/her) is a dedicated advocate for peace and justice\, bringing a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to fostering meaningful change for the common good. She currently serves as pastor of South Presbyterian Church in the Hudson Valley of New York\, in addition to serving as Minister for Gun Violence Prevention. \nMargery brings more than 15 years of experience in gun violence prevention ministry in congregational and church settings. Margery moderated the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship’s Gun Violence Prevention (PPFGVP) Working Group for six years and served on the PPF Executive Committee for four years before joining the PPF staff in 2024 as Minister for Gun Violence Prevention. She has played a crucial role in shaping and implementing the PC(USA) policy on gun violence prevention and intervention throughout these years\, has worked with the PPFGVP Working Group to develop a multitude of resources for ecumenical congregational use\, and is a co-founder of the James Atwood Institute for Congregational Courage.
