On President’s Day, Monday, February 20, a delegation of youth from church congregations all over New York State will gather in the Methodist office at the Church Center at the United Nations, for a 2-day seminar focused on the issue of “Islamophobia.”
Albany Presbytery at the 2016 High School Leadership Forum
Global concerns that encompass terrorism, climate change, human rights, discrimination, war, peace, and the current refugee crisis are issues discussed at these seminars. The goal is to inspire today’s youth to become advocates for justice and change in the future.
During the seminar, the youth get to know each other, engage in discussions, listen to speakers, participate in exercises, watch film clips, eat breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner together, and finally, tour the United Nations. There is also time for sightseeing and going to a Broadway show, if you are so inclined. The group stays at the Hilton Hotel East, within walking distance of the UN.
Albany Presbytery at the 2016 High School Leadership Forum: Having some fun!
First Presbyterian Church of Albany has sent a delegation to the UN Leadership Seminar for the past 6 years. It is an important part of our curriculum. The program has been in existence under the auspices of the NYS Council of Churches, and previously the Synod of the Northeast, for almost a decade. It is a worthwhile and life changing experience underwritten by NYSCC.
We will travel to NYC on Presidents Day, Monday, February 20 and return home Wednesday, February 22, 2016.
The cost of $400 covers:
- lodging
- travel by chartered bus
- lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday and breakfast Tuesday
