One of the more challenging responsibilities within our presbytery is the nominating process. During my tenure as VM/Moderator, I was asked to liaison with the Nominating Committee and Council, a job for which I felt particularly inadequate. And yet, I found, visiting churches, talking to elders, pastors, and clerks, that there are many talented and willing people out there–but they are serving their local congregations rather than being asked (or answering a call) to serve at the presbytery level. To that end, a letter was drafted and sent to all pastors and clerks asking for their help in injecting the presbytery with new blood, with willing elders, and with new perspectives. Would that that effort had borne fruit. It is my hope that each of us will look within and see those who might be willing and able to serve. The members of your flock deserve the opportunity to answer a higher call, if that is their wish. And you have an obligation to offer them that chance. Please bring your talent to the attention of a member the Nominating Committee or directly to the p
resbytery office for forwarding.
Yours in Christ,
Lois Hessberg
