Untitled design (1)One of the more challenging responsibilities within our presbytery is the nominating process. During my tenure as VM/Moderator, I was asked to liaison with the Nominating Committee and Council, a job for which I felt particularly inadequate. And yet, I found, visiting churches, talking to elders, pastors, and clerks, that there are many talented and willing people out there–but they are serving their local congregations rather than being asked (or answering a call) to serve at the presbytery level. To that end, a letter was drafted and sent to all pastors and clerks asking for their help in injecting the presbytery with new blood, with willing elders, and with new perspectives. Would that that effort had borne fruit. It is my hope that each of us will look within and see those who might be willing and able to serve. The members of your flock deserve the opportunity to answer a higher call, if that is their wish. And you have an obligation to offer them that chance. Please bring your talent to the attention of a member the Nominating Committee or directly to the pLois Hessberg-Dec 2012resbytery office for forwarding.

Yours in Christ,

Lois Hessberg
Former Moderator

Lois Hessberg is a former moderator of Albany Presbytery.  As part of her call, she visited each of our (then) 68 churches in our 12-county area, over a 2-year period, in an effort to invite all “to the table,” an effort which continues even now. She can be reached at loishessberg@aol.com

About Albany Presbytery Communications

Albany Presbytery strives to provide relevant information using a variety of communication channels including our website, email, paper mailings, social media, and in-person meetings. Please let us know of any erroneous information you may find. If you have information to share, we would be happy to connect with you. You can contact us via email here.

The purpose of the Albany Presbytery Blog is to share information, tell stories, and promote the mission and ministry of the presbytery, synod and beyond. While the breadth of this medium is intentionally broad, it is not a platform for opinion pieces related to business coming before the presbytery unless designed as part of an initiative to provide a diversity of viewpoints at the direction of the presbytery. Exceptions to this policy may be brought to the presbytery officers who will determine appropriateness of submissions.
