DESCRIPTION:Responding to ICE Activity\nLearn how to protect yourself and support others during immigration enforcement encounters. This presentation will cover: \n\nKnowing your rights when interacting with ICE or immigration agents\nSharing accurate information with newcomer and immigrant communities\nGetting involved in local rapid response networks\nSupporting individuals and families affected by detainment or deportation\n\nJoin us to build knowledge\, confidence\, and the skills to respond effectively. \nOur speaker: Kelley Gourley\n Kelley Gourley is the Director of Operations at RISSE (Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus\, Inc). With over ten years of experience in the sphere of refugee services\, she also served as the Refugee Services Manager at USCRI (U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants). She holds a M.A. in Anthropology in addition to a B.A. in International Relations and a B.A. in Middle East and North Africa Studies\, all from Boston University. Kelley is a trained Know Your Rights educator and hopes to further the community’s knowledge of their rights during these alarming times. She also acts\, on a volunteer basis\, as the Community Watch Lead for the Capital Region Sanctuary Coalition.

SUMMARY:Policy Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Click Here to Register \nAre your Sexual Misconduct\, Child Safety & Harassment Policies up to date?  The Book of Order now requires all congregations and councils to have these three\, along with an Anti-Racism policy.  Even if you have no children’s Sunday School or regular church attendance\, these policies are still required. \nIf not\, you’re in luck!  Not only is there a template for congregations to use\, but we are also hosting a Policy Writing Workshop where an individual or team from a congregation can attend and leave with a draft for your session to consider and adopt.  All you need is a laptop computer and a person or two willing to devote a Saturday morning to completing this very important task. \nOn Saturday\, November 1st\, from 10 am-12 pm at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church\, your Stated Clerk and members of the Presbytery’s Response\, Training and Compliance Team will be present to walk you through creating a draft policy catered to your congregation’s size and ministry. \nClick Here to Register

SUMMARY:Anti-Racism Training with Dr. Evelyn Ambríz
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Evelyn Ambríz of Cornell University\, an experienced anti-racism trainer\, will facilitate dialogue about engaging in difficult conversation\, what stories and assumptions we hold\, daring to lead\, and how we can engage our congregations in the work of racial justice. \nDr. Ambríz is a postdoc in the Graduate School from Ithaca\, New York and Garland\, Texas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in development sociology and a M.P.A. from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in higher education leadership and policy from UT Austin.
