Surrounded by Mystery

by | Apr 21, 2025 | Blog, Creation Care

That is what Easter is, it is a great mystery!

It is so great a mystery that when the disciples told Thomas that they had seen the risen Lord, Thomas said he could not believe it was true. Before he could believe, he had to see for himself. A week later Jesus appeared and Thomas got what he needed to believe. Jesus said to Thomas, “Have you believed because you have seen? Blessed are those who believe but have not seen.”

Creation too, is a mystery beyond our comprehension. We marvel over it and as we stand on this planet and look up at the night sky on a clear night we are filled with awe. It is mystery that feeds us and keeps us going. It is mystery that gives us hope beyond hope.

Yes, there are terrible things taking place in this world, things that are unspeakable. And here in our own nation we are aware of the ranting and raving of those driven by power and lust for more power, who bring pain and suffering on others and onto the country and beyond.

We need to be aware of what is going wrong in the world and in our nation. We need to do what we can to be at least a small part of the solution. If we choose to do nothing, then we are nothing more than an ongoing part of the problem.

It can all be quite overwhelming and frightening and that is exactly what it is designed to do, to scare us and discourage us and make us live in despair until we are simply too tired to do anything more. When we just give up, darkness wins. But here we are reminded of another mystery and that is the mystery of light. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.

Christ is Risen! And that is a great mystery! Indeed we are surrounded by mystery, now and into the future.

All Praise, Honor, and Glory be unto God who gives us the victory!
