2024 Men’s Retreat: Jesus: Relevant Yesterday, Today, Forever?

The Rev. Bo Harris invites men to attend the 2024 Men’s Retreat at Christ the King Center in Greenwich, NY. He is leading a breakout session. Details are listed below.

Men are living in a season of uncertainty and polarization with no easy solutions, a moment with a lot of conflicting “facts” in a rapidly changing landscape. Places that once offered respite from the world like our homes and faith communities are also filled with tension. As we live our lives it is hard not to just perpetually scroll through social media and become cynical about everything. This September, lay aside your cynicism for a weekend and let us ponder the question: What relevance does a first century, crucified, Jewish Rabbi named Jesus have for my life today? John 1:43-51, Jesus calling Nathaniel and Philip, will be our starting point as we dive into what Jacob Smith calls the “Nazareth Principle.” Through this principle we will explore the distinction between skepticism and cynicism, why am I so cynical and how is Jesus the answer, and how can I share my faith in such away that offers a real answer to skepticism, while not perpetuating the cynicism in others.

Expect…
Vibrant worship
Fun activities
Seriously good food

WEEDS AND WHEAT – Breakout Session with Rev. Bo Harris

All breakouts are availabe on a first come first served basis and must be signed up for at registration

We will look at the parable Jesus told about wheat and weeds in Matthew 13. Together we will consider how we can discover our true self (the deeper I), the one God has in mind for us. And the weeds are an important part of that. We will explore the mystery of God’s grace that we seem to grow spiritually by doing it wrong and falling into something bigger and deeper. There is a God-sized hole in the masculine effort to be successful, compulsively trying to “fix” or hide our mistakes. How can we lay hold of the wisdom which comes when we realize that renewal and transformation lie on the other side of loss and failure?
